I’m sure you’ve all seen and heard the ads for Hirsch’s Home Store in Durban North, as well as their other branches in Gauteng and even in the Cape. We caught up with Durban North local, Richard Hirsch (MD of Hirsch’s) to get to know him a little bit better… Can you tell us a bit about yourself before you got involved in the family business? I was born in Durban in 1976, I grew up in Durban North, I went to Chelsea Drive and then onto Northwood Boys High School. My parents started Hirsch’s in 1979 when I was just 3 years old. During the school holidays and after I matriculated I worked at Natal Wholesale Jewellers before leaving to live abroad for 4 years. Riverside Hockey Club primarily originated in the course of 2010 once Durban North Hockey Club changed its name to associate the hockey club with the increasingly popular Riverside Sports Club. Durban North Hockey Club itself was born in 2000 from the merger of the Glenwood Old Boys and Crusaders Hockey clubs.
